Description

19th century mahogany brass bound campaign chest. Recessed brass handles, corners and strap fittings. Raised on turned legs. 104 x 45 x 98 cm.

PROVENANCE: Previously in the ownership of Edwin A Stebbing, recipient of the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for conspicuous gallantry on 23 February 1900. Stebbing is recorded as having carried wounded men from the firing line under very heavy fire during the relief of Ladysmith, a significant military operation during the Second Boer War.
